Licensing
We advise clients on a range of liquor licensing issues, dealing with clients across the spectrum from the sole trader up to “brand name” national consortiums. We are regularly involved in appearances before the Licensing Boards and can offer advice in relation to successfully promoting applications for the full range of liquor licences at present available under the Licensing (Scotland) Act, 1976. We can deal with a full array of other licensing matters: routine renewals or the clients who finds themselves with an application that has developed a problematic profile.
In the near future, the licensing industry is likely to see the most radical set of changes for decades as a result of the introduction of recommendations by the Nicholson Committee. Licensees will have to adjust to an entirely new and unfamiliar system, in which new licences for all premises will have to be applied for and individual licence holders will need to obtain a separate licence entitling them to trade. Although the final details have yet to be worked out, clients would be well advised to take informed and specialist advice at the earliest stage possible in preparation for these changes.
Nigel Wood has been involved in liquor licensing for over 25 years. Since 1992, Nigel has held a Certificate in Liquor Licensing Law from the University of Glasgow, but also deals with a variety of matters in relation to licensing under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act and appears before the Licensing Committee.
